Qualification Round at the Student League of Case-in Championship in ‘Power Industry’ Section

On 9 April 2020, Izolyator took part in the expert support of the qualifying stage of the Student League of the Case-in International Engineering Championship in Power Industry section.

Case-in International Engineering Championship is an international competition system for solving engineering cases for schoolchildren, students and young specialists in the fuel and energy and mineral resource sectors.

The project is included in the platform ‘Russia is a country of opportunities’ and is being implemented in line with the Action Plan aimed at popularizing worker and engineering professions, approved by order of the Government of the Russian Federation.

Since 2018, the championship has developed using a grant from the President of the Russian Federation for the development of civil society provided by the Presidential Grants Fund.

In 2019, the Championship entered the TOP-15 world Olympiads according to the version of the RAEX rating agency (RAEX-Analytics).

The qualification round was organized by the National Research University ‘Moscow Power Engineering Institute’ (MPEI).

In connection with the announcement by the World Health Organization of an emergency due to the outbreak of a new coronavirus infection, and also taking into account the restrictions introduced in the regions of Russia, the selection stage went using the Webinar platform for conducting online conferences.

The chairman of the expert committee was D. Alexander Slavinsky, CEO at Zavod Izolyator LLC, Head of CIGRE National Study Committee D1.

The experts from Izolyator were Vladimir Ustinov, Deputy Director for Quality, and Galina Ustinova, Engineer.

The 2020 championship is dedicated to the topic ‘Technological modernization of the Unified National (All-Russian) Power Grid (UNPG)’. As part of the Comprehensive Modernization Plan, the teams were invited to present their solutions to increase the efficiency of operation and reduce losses in the main electric networks of the UNPG of the Federal Grid Company of the Unified Energy System for the period until 2030.

Vladimir Tulsky, director of the Institute of Electric Power Engineering at MPEI, addressed the participants of the qualification with a welcome speech.

10 teams were presenting their solutions in defense of the cases: EMF of knowledge, Future of energy, KPR, Tense circuit, KUKU, Bath-house, Tesla sisters, Flow of failures, all representing MPEI; MISIS Power Engineers, National University of Science and Technology ‘MISIS’; Megavolts, Stary Oskol Technological Institute named after A. A. Ugarov — branch of MISIS.

The teams presented their solutions on the proposed topic and answered questions from experts.

1st place — the Bath-house team,
2nd place — the CPR team,
3rd place — the KUKU team.

The closing remarks to the participants of the qualifying round of the championship were addressed by the chairman of the expert commission Alexander Slavinsky. He thanked everyone for the interesting integrated solutions and wished the winning teams of the qualifying round to successfully present their work in the championship finals.
