MEI Conference

On 25–27 May 2016, Izolyator took part in the scientific conference “Petroleum oils in power industry: application and quality control 2016” held in MEI.

The conference gathered leading experts from chemical laboratories and producers of oils, oil-filled power equipment, new and operating oils quality control devices, oil cleaning and regeneration equipment.

Specialists from various industries shared their experience of oils operation. In the framework of the conference, the professional community discussed issues of import substitution, new requirements to oils quality control and operation, analytic report on the current state regulations and application and quality control aspects of the following oil types:

- Transformer oils;

- Turbine oils and steam and gas turbine (including CCGT);

- Turbine oils for hydroelectric installations;

- Industrial, compressor and hydraulic oils.

The conference is intended for managers, designers, engineering and operational staff of thermal, nuclear and hydroelectric power plants, power grids and specialized organizations on installation and maintenance.

The topics of the scientific conference “Oils application and quality control”:

1. Domestic and imported oils in power industry: range of products and operational features

2. New requirements on quality control and operation of oil, current regulations analysis (IEC publications, technical standards, GOST, company standards, etc.)

3. Application and selection of oils, mixing methods

4. Sample drawing procedures, new technologies and devices for sample drawing

5. Receipt of oils from suppliers, details and possible problems

6. Quality control of oils at receipt, storage, preparation and filling oil to the power equipment, operation

7. Criteria of equipment selection for oil cleaning, drying, degasing and regeneration according to new regulations of oil operation

8. Measures to maintain oil parameters during operation

9. Criteria and methods of oil replacement in equipment, retrieval and utilization of waste oils, leakages and oily wastes

10. New requirements to modernization of oil handling facilities of power companies

11. Power oils additives, selection and application novelties

12. Transformer oil monitoring and power equipment diagnostics

13. Requirements to oil filling operation at installation and maintenance (only for transformer oil)

14. Special oils and mixtures for power equipment cleansing and restoring (only for transformer oil)

15. Cleansing lubrication systems of turbines, methods and equipment (only for turbine oil)

16. Modern synthetic oils, gels, sealing materials application and quality control in power equipment (transformer oil)

17.Application of hydraulic, compressor, industrial and motor oils and grease lubricants

18. Round-table

The conference was attended by specialists from NIU MEI, VTI, ORGRES JSC, Pall Eurasia Ltd, FGBU NPO Taifun, D1 RNC CIGRE Subcommittee members (Massa Ltd – Izolyator plant), Rosneft Concern, INTERA CJSC, ElegazEnergoServis Ltd, Diatrans Ltd, FGBOU VO Kazan State Power University, NPO Obninskie filtry “ECO-FILTER” and other.

The participants agreed on the importance of new requirements development in regard to quality control and operation of oils, acting regulative documentation, practical aspects of application and quality control of the following oil types:

- transformer oils

- turbine oils for steam and gas turbines (including CCGT)

- turbine oils for hydroelectric installations

- industrial, compressor and hydraulic oils

To ensure a proper quality of acting and developed standards for oils and oil operating equipment in Russia, it is required to analyzed new and updated relevant IEC standards in those areas and benchmark existing and prepared domestic standards.

Speakers and conference participants expressed a shared opinion that the demand for oil application technologies in modern Russian power industry as well as their strategic importance for the future sector development raises no doubts.

The following members of D1 Subcommittee made reports at the conference:

“Compression gel application in high-voltage bushings”, authors: A.Slavinsky, S.Kryuchkova (Izolyator plant).

“Some subtleties in transformer oil sample drawing and sample preparation procedures”, author B. Buzaev, PhD.

V. Buzaev presented the Subcommittee activities at the conference.
