5th International Colloquium ‘Transformer Research and Asset Management’
On 9–12 October 2019, Izolyator plant participated in the 5th International Colloquium ‘Transformer Research and Asset Management’, which was held in Opatija, Croatia.
Conseil International des Grands Réseaux Électriques (CIGRE) is the largest international non-profit Association for promoting collaboration with experts from all around the world by sharing knowledge and joining forces to improve electric power systems.
Founded in 1921 in France and headquartered in Paris CIGRE is one of the most authoritative and significant international associations which unites scientists and power engineers from all over the world and makes significant impact on the strategy of the electricity industry in many countries.
The mission of CIGRE as pertains to ts Charter is to coordinate research, scientific knowledge and practical experience sharing on issues of power networks operation. The issues of design, creation and operation of high-voltage equipment, grids planning and operation, implementation of new technologies for data mining and processing and control systems are in the spotlight.
CIGRE activities shape the strategic vision of the power network development needed for selection of energy policy and are closely tied with the vector of scientific and technical progress that defines key directions of integration processes.
Biannual session is a central event in the activity of the CIGRE. The key task of the session is technical knowledge and information sharing between engineering community, scientists and technical specialists of all countries in regard to high-voltage power generation and transmission.
The organizer of the colloquium is the National Committee of CIGRE Croatia with study committee A2 CIGRE ‘Power transformers and reactors’, Electrical engineering and computing technics in Zagreb and Center for professional advancement in transformer technology research.
The colloquium brought together engineers, managers, economists, scientists, and other interested parties in the field of power, special, distribution and measuring transformers. 54 reports were presented from 16 countries: Croatia, Russia, France, Portugal, Sweden, Poland, Switzerland, Germany, USA, Canada, Slovenia, Australia, Austria, Bulgaria, the Netherlands and Uruguay.
Izolyator plant was represented at the colloquium by the Deputy Director for Quality, coordinator of the CIGRE National Study Committee D1 Vladimir Ustinov and the secretary of CIGRE National Study Committee D1 Galina Ustinova.

At the colloquium from Russia, two poster reports were presented:
- Yu. V. Nikitin, V. N. Ustinov (both — Izolyator plant). ‘High-voltage bushings with RIN (RIS) -insulation: research, testing, prospects’. The report discusses the types of internal insulation of high-voltage bushings and their differences, the manufacturing technology of RIN insulation, tests and prospects for the RIN insulation application.
- Doctor of Technical Sciences L. A. Daryan (Technical Inspectorate of the Unified Energy System), P. V. Golubev, A. M. Osipov (both - Inspection for Monitoring the Technical Condition of the Electric Power Plant), A. A. Arutyunyan (Engineering Center ELCHROM) ‘Innovative Solutions for the indication of flammable gases using a Buchholz relay‘. The article presents the rationale for the development and use of specialized instruments for the indication of combustible gases using Buchholz relays in power transformers.
Many participants and guests of the poster session showed interest in the results of the research of Russian scientists.
Discussion of the reports of Russian scientists of the poster session at the 5th International CIGRE Colloquium in Croatia
Russian experts took an active part in discussions on scientific research and practical experience in operating transformers.
An exchange of information materials with participants of the exhibition held as part of the Colloquium also took place.
