Opening of the 48th Session of CIGRE in Paris

On August 20^th, 2021, the CIGRE National Study Committee D1 of the Russian National Committee of CIGRE took part in the opening ceremony of the 48th session of CIGRE.

The International Council on Large Electric Systems (French: Conseil International des Grands Réseaux Électriques, CIGRÉ) is the largest international non-profit Association for promoting collaboration with experts from all around the world by sharing knowledge and joining forces to improve electric power systems.

Founded in 1921 in France and headquartered in Paris CIGRE is one of the most authoritative and significant international associations which unites scientists and power engineers from all over the world and makes significant impact on the strategy of the electricity industry in many countries. 

The mission of CIGRE as pertains to ts Charter is to coordinate research, scientific knowledge and practical experience sharing on issues of power networks operation. The issues of design, creation and operation of high-voltage equipment, grids planning and operation, implementation of new technologies for data mining and processing and control systems are in the spotlight. 

The 48th session dedicated to the 100th anniversary of CIGRE will be held in a virtual format due to restrictions related to the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus infection.  

This year's electronic session — the Virtual Centennial Session — will be a unique event and will be broadcasted directly from the Palais des Congresses in Paris.

The newly created CIGRE-TV creates additional opportunities for witnessing of what is happening with a presence effect. As far as possible, the operators show to online participants various halls and auditoriums of the Palais des Congresses in Paris, where gathered the participants who have the full-time access to the live site of the 48th session of CIGRE.

In his welcoming speech to the participants of the virtual session, CIGRE President Michel Augonnet thanked everyone for their active participation in the events of the session: over 1,500 people took part in the work of the virtual platforms during the first two days.

Michel Augonnet reminded the audience of the main milestones of the organization's formation over 100 years and the key stages of the development of the world electric power industry.

The President of CIGRE pointed out that in the modern reality, the global electric power industry faces new challenges — the industry and, first of all, the electric grid complex should become pioneers of a new energy transition to a low-carbon industry and a consumption system.

The Executive Chairman of the State Grid Corporation of China, Baoan Xin, made a program report on the construction of a new energy system that promotes a new energy transition. 

The CIGRE National Study Committee D1 of the Russian National Committee of CIGRE on the thematic direction ‘Materials and Emerging Test Techniques’ (NSC D1) at the opening of the 48th session of CIGRE was represented by:
