Izolyator-AKS outdoor termination installed at a power facility in Karachay-Cherkessia

On 1 October 2022 the installation of six 126 kV outdoor termination manufactured by Izolyator-AKS on the cable line of the Zelenchuk hydroelectric power plant, a pumped storage power plant in Karachay-Cherkessia in the North Caucasus, was successfully completed.

The Zelenchuk hydroelectric power plant — pumped storage power plant (Zelenchuk HPP — PSPP) is the largest hydroelectric power plant in Karachay-Cherkessia and one of the largest in the North Caucasus. The installed capacity of the plant in the turbine mode is 300 MW, in the pump mode — 156.18 MW. The power plant operates in the peak part of the load schedule of the energy system of the South of Russia, providing a highly maneuverable reserve in case of breakdowns and deviations in the energy system, and in pumping mode maintains the load schedule of the energy system at night when power consumption decreases. The Zelenchuk HPP — PSPP is part of the Karachay-Cherkessia branch of the Federal Hydro-Generating Company — RusHydro, the largest Russian energy holding.

The installed outdoor termination with composite insulator IKM-126 are sealed armature designed for air connection of cable lines with elements of the power supply system and are installed on cables with XLPE insulation.

This is one of the first installations of high-voltage cable accessories manufactured by the Izolyator-AKS plant at power facilities: on September 24, terminations of the same type were installed on the cable line of the 126 kV Ostroshchitsky Gorodok substation in the Minsk region in Belarus.

This installation procedure, as well as the previous one, features the lifting of the pre-assembled on the ground armature with its subsequent installation on the seats of the power transmission line support.

The assembly of the outdoor termination was carried out at prepared workplaces. The lifting was done using a special locking device.

Supervision of the installation, which was carried out by the engineering company K-Electrotechnician, was done by the Head of the Service Center of the Izolyator-AKS plant Sergey Kodemaskin and the Lead Supervising Engineer of the SVN-Service department of the R&D center of the Izolyator Production Complex Mikhail Rybakov.

The terminations were sent to the customers two weeks ahead of the schedule.
